Are you a registered building contractor in Cape Town?
Yes. iLifa Holdings is CIDB registered and a Level 1 BBBEE contributor, working from our yard at 10 Concorde Crescent, Airport Industria. We hold public liability cover on every contract and carry a full safety file, which is why we are able to work for municipalities and body corporates as well as private clients.
What areas of Cape Town do you cover?
The whole metro and most of the Western Cape. Airport Industria sits roughly half an hour from the Northern Suburbs, the Southern Suburbs, the Atlantic Seaboard and the West Coast, and about forty minutes from Somerset West and Stellenbosch. We also travel to Gauteng for contract work.
Do you do civil work as well as building work?
Both, and that is the point of us. The civils side covers trenching, cable hauling, stormwater, manholes, paving, kerbing, tar surfacing and reinstatement. The building side covers new builds, additions, alterations, kitchens, aluminium, flooring and finishing. Most contractors do one or the other and sub-let the rest.
How much does a building contractor charge in Cape Town?
It depends entirely on the work, which is why we do not publish rates. What we will do is come out free of charge, measure properly and give you a firm written quotation with the scope spelled out. If you would like an idea of the scale first, the Design Studio on this site works out quantities for you in a few minutes.
How quickly can you quote?
We normally get to site within two to three working days of your enquiry and the written quotation follows within a few days of that. Urgent work — a burst, a collapse, a deadline — we will move on the same day where we can.
Do you work for body corporates and managing agents?
Regularly. Complex roads, parking areas, boundary walls, paving and phased resurfacing are a large part of what we do. We are happy to present a quotation at a trustee meeting and to phase the work so residents keep access throughout.
Do you take on small jobs, or only big contracts?
Both. A single driveway or one built-in cupboard is worth our time, and so is a 400 metre trench. Smaller jobs carry a proportionally higher share of our fixed costs, so we will always tell you honestly if a job is too small to price well.
Do you supply materials too?
Yes. We carry cement, bricks, asbestos-free fibre cement sheeting, zinc roof sheeting and paving at trade rates through our materials shop. On an iLifa contract, materials bill straight to the job rather than you sourcing them separately.
Can you help with council plans?
For additions and structural alterations we will tell you at the site assessment what needs approval, and we can arrange the draughting and submission for you. We will not start structural work that should have approved plans behind it.
Who actually does the work?
Our own crews. We employ our civils teams, electrical jointers, aluminium installers and joiners directly rather than brokering the work out. That is what lets us give one price, one programme and one point of accountability.
